Fran - thanks for your comment, I hope your experiences in healing your body are positive and rewarding. The whole point of discovering that we can heal ourselves by eating real foods, detoxing, and eliminating chemicals from our environments is to achieve realization that we do have the power and the choice to take care of our own health, and hopefully have a powerful and meaningful impact on others as well who can share our experiences and benefit.

Thanks for bringing up the touchy issue of the medical community invoking fear and cornering us.
I find that pressing my doctor or even the vet for information and presenting my own facts can get heated and wish that they could put aside their egos and focus on what is important.
Could totally relate to the feeling of someone thinking you are insane. I do not care know , I just stand my ground, if someone is respectful and listens I engage, if not I laid down the law it's my body and I know it better than you. Mostly , I stick with alternative practitioners.
Great site, nice to feel connected with like minded people seeking truth and caring for themselves..

Amber - I totally agree with you. I have pretty much stopped going to conventional doctors. Over the last year I've been seeing a nutritional therapist, colon hydrotherapist, and a medical doctor who is much more like a naturopathic doctor for a couple of things that are pretty much the last two things to go in my long list of health problems I used to have for many years. Although I'm not doing many appointments right now as we are in penny pinching mode because our business has been really slow (solar installation).

Many people I know think I'm off my rocker to go to these people, but yet they are the only ones who have managed to help me at all - that along with my vastly improved diet over the last five years. When I was going to conventional doctors for the first 30 plus years of my life, I never got anywhere but sicker.

It's really sad that cancer patients are just being told to eat more of the same foods that made them sick in the first place. It really just makes me wonder, why would doctors do this? The only reason that seems to make sense is for the profit. But I know not all doctors could possibly be that way. I just think some of them really don't know any better, and want to help - they just simply lack the knowledge to do so. That's sad too!

I feel the cancer industry is so full of it! They never inform people of the best steps to prevent, such as you outlined! I read an article describing the "normal" SAD diets they feed patients in hospitals & cancer centers. How is that supposed to heal?
I've read up a lot on cancer, and I don't think I would ever go to a Dr, I would feel a lot safer taking care of myself.

I found both David Brownstein's and Derry's books on Iodine to be quite helpful. Current research from Mexico, India and Japan supports the use of Iodine in prevention and treatment of breast cancer.

Peggy - thank you for leaving this comment, because I have a dear friend who is also allergic to sunlight and burns if she is out in the sun for even 5 or ten minutes as well. I have been wondering about whether this was due to some type of deficiency, but actually hadn't made the Vitamin D connection...but it makes perfect sense! I think what may be happening is that when people whose deficiency levels in some nutrient are extremely low, their bodies react rather violently to that source of supplementation - whether it be the sun or food or whatever.

Some years ago when I was very deficient in many nutrients and malnourished, I had recently started eating a traditional, whole foods diet and I was also on a natural vitamin supplementation called Eniva to get my body jump started from being deficient for so long. My nutritional therapist recommended that I use it for a period of time to help my body get back on track. For the first couple of months, I would break out in a rash on my face and arms each time I took it (it's a liquid), and couldn't figure out what the problem was. It didn't last long, only about an hour or so, but I thought it might mean I was allergic to the supplement. I asked my nutritional therapist about it and she said when you've been deprived so long of essential nutrients and vitamins, your body can react violently when those elements are reintroduced. I'm hoping to convince my friend of this fact, and now with your anecdote and my own experience I want to help persuade her to take the cod liver oil to get her levels back up. Thanks much! :)

My mother is "allergic" to sunlight. She breaks out in a full-body rash and her throat swells shut if she even is in sunlight for 5 minutes. It never occurred to me that her breast cancer could be a sign that she was vitamin D deficient until I started reading sources OTHER than those recommended by the doctors. When she finally got her vitamin D tested, she was not surprisingly, dangerously low. She refuses CLO because she doesn't like fish burps (I don't fish burp on the fermented CLO, and isn't a burp here and there better than cancer anyway???) but will take the prescription D. Better than nothing, I guess.

The sunlight/vitamin D/cancer connection is an important one, and overlooked for too long. Thank you for this important post.
